So, upon getting back I've just been hangin' at the home and calling Efrain every day. We text, E-mail, and call a lot;-) Right now we are just waiting on Efrain's papers to be processed in order for us to make our next appointment with an embassy official. This next step could be him simply applying for the Visa, or it could be us getting more papers processed proving that he is worthy of living in the U.S. (that he is not going to be a public charge, that he will obay the laws and take care of his family, contribute to the community etc.) Either way, we've all resigned ourselves to the fact that we just have to keep on chugging along without getting upset because after all of this, we will be free to live quite normally if such a thing exists.
Efrain and I are lucky to have such good friends both here and in Juarez because we both hardly feel alone despite the loss of being apart. Efrain has moved into the home of a nice family there in Juarez and pays them $75/week for food, board, and washing his clothing. I have good friends who have come out of the woodwork (mostly one of the Thai families in town) to drop off food and to play with Issa while I can work in the kitchen without ignoring her.
This weekend, Liz has come to visit from Santa Fe and we are all crashing mom and pop's house. It's been wonderful to have the extra hands and hearts to give attention to Issa. We all went down town yesterday and wondered in and out of the shopes. Issa had a great time running in the rose gardens at Charlotte Hall Museum and G-pa bought her some new moccasins because she has grown out of all her shoes (and she looks more native than ever in them!) Liz and I stopped by Grandma's Bakery under St. Michael's cafe and munched on pastries and I shared with Issa of course;-)
In the meantime I've been becoming more of a foodie and am getting excited to make some cool stuff for the holidays! We are also planning on going to a pumpkin patch this year to let Issa pick out her own pumpkin and go into her first corn maze (it would also be my first corn maze);-)
