Good Day to Everyone!
So here I am at the beginning of Autumn and I have the pleasure of looking back on some of the best moments for us in the summer. If anything, I'm learning that these videos are wonderful to remember things by. It's sometimes hard to look back and remember every detail of past travels like the smells and sounds of a city. But now I see that I can still take a glance back and remember that life is big and an adventure doesn't have to come knocking at your door. For us, San Antonio is just 5 hours away. In this trip, we learned so much about the interesting history of Texas and how at the time of the Alamo, Tejanos were Tejanos...not Americans, not Mexicans, but a blend of folks who were distinctly their own. As I saw the city, it reminded me in a way of Santa Fe and parts of New Mexico in that parts of its history are of Mexican and Spanish origin reflected in the architecture and street names. Today it's an interesting melting pot. As we walked around the city we saw many couples just like us...blended families of all shades and nationalities. At the Rainforest Cafe, our waiters were from Jamaica and Jordan. Our riverboat guide was from San Antonio and we had Gelato later in the day in a family run restaurant who's owner was from Italy. Both Efrain and I came home feeling like we had a breath of fresh air finally seeing that even though we aren't there to see it all the time, people from all walks of life are visiting and getting along just fine. What I hadn't looked into or bargained on was that the very weekend we went to San Antonio, not only was it Father's Day, but there was a big military graduation ceremony and also a Republican Convention happening. It was crowded, and a little crazy, but we loved it all the same. At night the streets were filled with Mariachi music and the sounds echoed off the old brick buildings. Vines covered the sides of brick buildings and old-gnarly trees lined the River Walk. Indeed, San Antonio is nothing short of enchanting.
The video is a little shaky at times...bare with me, I'm still working on my filming and editing skills!
